First Step

We’re Doing Something campaign

Jakarta Our Home has been created for the sole purpose of doing something.

We’re Doing Something campaign it’s a step by step program where the ultimate goal is to completely eradicate the garbage problem from the streets of Jakarta Our Home. This requires everyone’s involvement. If we want to do something then here is our chance to do it. This is how we can help improve Jakarta our home:

The first way to get involved in this “campaign” is by us doing something, regardless of how big or small that something is, at the end of the day it’s better than doing nothing.
If you are still wondering about what we can do then simply read this post and you will be illuminated. It is not hard to do something as long as we want to.

The second way to get involved in the We’re Doing Something campaign is by becoming members of this blog.

1. As members we can share our ideas that could help with the campaign and not only…

2. As members we are actively involved in the step by step program of making Jakarta a better home

3. As members we can do more.

The third way to get involved in the We’re Doing Something campaign is by purchasing the products of the campaign:

1.       The funds raised will be used to purchase garbage bins which will be donated to “sidewalk restaurants”, “sidewalk shops” and bus stations;

2.     This will give people the option to throw their garbage where it belongs – in the garbage bin.

3.      The ultimate goal is to raise enough funds to be able to donate garbage bins for all the streets of Jakarta and as a result covering an even bigger area, reaching out to more people, reducing even more the amount of garbage.

In order to do this, the 1st thing we need to understand is that the garbage that we see on the streets right now is from people. But who can really blame them? It’s not like they have many options, let’s be fare, it’s not like they could throw their garbage where they should be throwing it in the garbage bin and not on the streets; because Jakarta does not have enough garbage bins.

So when people have some garbage to throw, they only have two options, to carry it, in their hand, pocket, bag etc. until they find a garbage bin or…they could just throw it anywhere they can. What do you think most people do?

In my opinion, when you give people a third option; to throw the garbage in the garbage bin, then most people will choose the third option.

Less people throw garbage on the streets, then you will also have less garbage on the streets.

So we start by donating garbage bins to sidewalk restaurants, sidewalk shops and bus stations first.

Sidewalk restaurants.
The vast majority of these “restaurants” throw leftover food, tissues, plastic cups and straws wherever they can; the wind then spreads them all over the city. A simple garbage bin can help.

Maybe someone should also tell these “restaurant” owners that even though the plastic cups, the plastic straws, plastic bottles, glass bottles and tissues are not re-usable, they are recyclable, so they could make good money from that as well.

Sidewalk shops.
These shops gather their garbage in one big pile, which the wind or the rain spreads everywhere. But if these sidewalk shops would have a garbage bin, then the wind or the rain can’t get to the garbage anymore, as a result we eliminate another problem.

Bus stations
People wait there, and while waiting they smoke, drink or eat. When they finish they throw what they can’t re-use. So guess what happens next, the wind or the rain spreads the garbage all over the city. A simple garbage bin will eliminate this problem too.

The next step is the streets of Jakarta Our Home.
